A closed-toe shoe in a fun color is work appropriate if you are styled conservatively. Purses are also another way to add color to your work outfits. My purse rule is the brighter the color, the more structured your purse should be.
This outfit could have used a statement necklace but I opted for a simple diamond pendant necklace since I sported a red lip (Mac's ruby woo).
Speaking of rain boots and flats, have you tried the Hunter flats?
I thought I saw a more traditional Hunter wellies turned flats style in one of my last Neiman Marcus catalogs but I cannot find them online.
