How to wear denim to work: make your outfit smart casual with a top you'd normally wear to work.
Is your job participating? Or is your dress code ever flexible enough for jeans?
Petite JD is hosting a "50 Classics Challenge." This week's challenge was to create a casual day time look only using items from the following chart:

To keep in line with the classics guide, I swapped out my equestrian style jacket for a classic wool coat paired with a silk scarf. IRL the play on textures is great.
Outfit details:
Ann Taylor Loft blouse, Gucci jacket, Hermès belt, Hermès jumping boots, Hermès silk scarf, J Brand denim, J Crew coat, Louis Vuitton damier print purse, Rolex submariner watch, YSL arty ring

wow! I love your outfit!!! Nice boots!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteMy dress code is ever so flexible (I have no restrictions in what to wear, perks of being a shop owner lol) but I don't wear jeans. It's too hot and humid where I live, so I go by wearing shorts and skirts cuz it fits the vibe of my shop.
ReplyDeleteLove the 50's outfit you put together :) The coat and the silk scarf are really nice touches.

I love seeing the personal style of shop owners. I'd find it hard to work in a shop surrounded by beautiful clothes and limited to formal wear! :D
DeleteThis is such a chic way of wearing denim! I love those boots!
ReplyDeleteHave a sweet weekend!

Aww thanks
DeleteMy office allows jeans 5 days a week, and let's just say people have gotten WAAAAY to casual! I wanted that LV bag but ended up with the Epi Speedy 25, now you are making me want to go back to get it!
ReplyDeleteThis bag is such a great work horse!
DeleteWow fantastic and elegant style!!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe we can follow each other?

Yay! Looks great. I love how you did a blazer and a jacket to show the outfit for two different seasons. Also, great job using a lot of the items. I used a bare minimum, but I'm also a VERY simple kind of gal =)
ReplyDeleteThanks!

@ Bravoe:
“Way too casual”? Hmmm, has someone worn pajama jeans? Lol... shh, someone at my job did!! There should be a blog where we can submit candid shots of what not to wear ;) –hmm, maybe “what not to wear” show? Re the bag: get it! ;) I like that I hardly see it around.
Petite JD:
Daily accoutrements have become my way of bringing down the price for stuff I buy—by this I mean I think of cost per wear, so I must accessorize ;)
The best part of this outfit is the buckles on the boots and the blazer! I love the subtle but chunky jewelry which brings in a pop of color. The purse is fly and the fact that is has a shoulder strap on it brings more of an every day use to it (multi functional). The coat looks extremely warm and takes on a life of it's own once it is added to the outfit. Great ideas on wearing brown tones for the winter.
ReplyDeleteAww thank you so much hun! Yes, im using one of those donut buns :) Try again! They really are simple to use and it didn't take me long to get the technique! i thought about making a tutorial, as i'd received quite a fwe questions about it... hmm! :) im bad at videos, but maybe :D
ReplyDeleteby the way, i love your blog! i love the classics, i go for a simplistic look in almost everything, and i love how your blog focuses on career fashion - that will definitely come in handy after uni! ;))
p.s. im a law student too!!!!!!! :)))

I agree with your advice on how to make denim work appropriate. Sometimes I dress up more on top when I can wear jeans to counteract. Others dress casual on top too and it just doesn't look right in the office.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog.
I agree!
DeleteSuch a classy outfit! Absolutely wonderful.

Thanks!
DeleteI rarely wear jeans to work, mainly because it makes me look so much younger (I don't like to blend too much with he kids). Those are some killer boots btw!!
ReplyDeleteYes, if I were a teacher I wouldn't even if everyone else was very casual.
DeleteAbsolutely LOVE it! Well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks
DeleteI just took out my H mokka boots and they have a odd greyish patina over them, I've only worn them three times, have yours ever had this?
ReplyDelete@ Bourbon&Pearls
ReplyDeleteI have heard that the box leather turns into an admirable patina--but what you are describing sounds not so. I have had my brown ones for a few months under a year and red ones for one year without any noticeable change. Did you wear yours in the rain? I have heard of blistering occurring with these--my advice is to contact your SA or local H. I believe the jumping boots qualify for H spa. HTH <3
I love this blog post, This blog is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I am interested in fashion as well. But I want to do criminal law...fashionably... Great inspiration!!!
ReplyDeleteAww, great! I'm glad you found me. Criminal law is so fun!!
