50 Classics Challenge: Business Attire

Here is my 'wear to work' look for week two of Petite JD's Classics Challenge:

Although the classics list for this challenge is detailed it is missing some of my favorite categories: a sheath dress, diamond necklace, and leather jacket.

Do you own or would you strive to own everything on this classics list or do you have your own wardrobe "must have" list?

A scarf manipulated into a belt and worn underneath a cardigan or blazer gives your outfit a certain je ne sais quoi. This extra (work appropriate) kick helps make classic pieces feel modern and youthful.

Outfit details:
Banana Republic top, Datejust Rolex, Diamond heart pendant necklace, Hermès scarf, J Crew sweater, Louis Vuitton bowling montaigne purse, Salvatore Ferragamo parodia heels, Theory skirt, Urban Outfitters opaque stockings, Vintage ring

♥ Thanks for reading and supporting my blog!

  1. Looks great. Fabulously Petite and I were commenting earlier on how the list is not great for cute work attire. But you still look great, great job!

  2. I used to make my own list, but then things got out of hand and lots of the stuff I had couldn't be worn with each other. So now, I like to take a look at basics that can be mixed up with other stuff but not all of them!

  3. I like how you styled the scarf into a belt. Did you tuck the ends underneath?

  4. Ok, I am REALLY going to enjoy your blog. I have a ruffle sweater similar to yours in grey. I think mine came from Loft. I love how you paired the colours purple & grey. I think they're awesome together. Your outfit looks great! And the checklist above is excellent! I found out about Matchbook online magazine the beginning of this year and posted this checklist on my Tumblr. Awesome post girl! Hope you're having a great weekend!

  5. I actually don't have all the items on the checklist. I thought I had all the classics covered but clearly not. You will not believe this but I don't have a navy blazer... I do like the outfit you have on and also the scarf turned into belt looks beautiful!

  6. @ Petite JD:
I have a pseudo list of my own in my head that I plan to post soon--a more young professional friendly one ;-)

    @Laura:
I know what you mean; I think it can be hard making a switch in style (ie: from college chic to young professional) because you buy amazing separates without a full outfit and sometimes trying to force an outfit to come together on 1 trip doesn't work. So I think that starting off with a palette of basic neutrals is more efficient.

    @ Alina:
    Thanks.

    @ Rites of Beauty:
Yes, I tied it in the back and tucked the loose ends under the "belt" like I showed in a previous post :)

    @ SassyUptownChic:
Thanks and I'm glad you found your way to me then xoxo
If you ever have any questions on how to style particular items shoot them at me ;) And omg I need to edit my post to put that my sweater is from Loft too ;)

    @ Bravoe Runway:
I have everything on the list but the pearl studs and yet I don't necessarily consider my items that fit under these categories as my classic pieces. And from what I see, you have a great mix of classic and trendy looks.

  14. What’s good about women’s business attire is that it’s absolutely fashionable! There is a wide variety of combinations, and each is just as unique as the other. Could it be that women have the edge when handling business deals because of what they wear? Hmm, that’s an interesting thought.
